If there was any record for a film winning maximum Filmfare awards then we are pretty sure that Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy has broken it by winning 13 awards at the 2020 Filmfare awards. Even though we were expecting the film to win multiple awards that evening, but still it came as a shock when it won almost every award and viewers had a similar reaction as there was an uproar on Twitter and social media.

Many were upset that the film was given so much credit and said how it was completely unfair to many other deserving nominees that lost to this film. From Best Picture, Best actor, Best actress, Best director and best supporting cast, Gully Boy took home every major award of the evening and it almost seemed like no other good film was released last year. These are all the awards that Gully Boy took home in this year’s Filmfare awards:

• Best Film

• Best Director

• Best Actor (Male)

• Best Actor (Female)

• Best Supporting Actor (Female)

• Best Music Album

• Best Supporting Actor (Male)

• Best Lyrics

• Best Music Director

• Best Cinematography

• Best Production design

• Best Screenplay

• Best Dialogue

After the Filmfare awards were telecasted, the viewers and fans took to twitter to express their disappointment at the fact that the jury did not even recognise some of the other films that came out last year and seemed to have favoured Gully boy. There were memes all over the internet and a lot of people believe that these awards were just paid awards. The hashtag ‘BoycottFilmfareAwards’ also started trending as viewers got mad at the award show. However, the viewers were not the only ones who were angry at Filmfare.

One of the awards that Gully Boy won was for best lyrics and song and a lyricist in particular has had a major reaction to it. The lyricist of the song ‘teri mitti’ from the film Kesari Manoj Muntashir is upset with the jury of Filmfare awards for giving the award to the song ‘apna time ayega’ from Gully Boy and not to him. He even said that his song was his best work till date and if the jury doesn’t recognise that then he would rather boycott award shows all together and not attend them till his last breath.

His reaction has been retweeted by fans and many have agreed to his sentiments and feel that Filmfare has been too biased this year to this one film. One reason for this could be the fact that Gully Boy was chosen as the official entry to be sent to the Oscars in 2020. Even though the film did not qualify and reach the ultimate nominations, it still got huge respect in India and this was evident at the Filmfares as well. Director Zoya Akhtar did a great job in writing her characters and story and it definitely was a path breaking movie for Bollywood but it still doesn’t justify the 13 awards.
