Bollywood has started the year off with a multi starrer comedy film ‘Good Newwz’. So if you are thinking of watching a light comedy with a little bit of drama and a lot of laughs then read on for the review.
When two couples with the same surnames try to go through the process of IVF and find out that there has been a sperm mix-up, what happens and who blames who?

The first couple Deepti (Kareena Kapoor) and Varun (Akshay Kumar) are an urban couple from Chandigarh and they seem to have an ideal life but one thing is missing for which Deepti is desperate and that is a child. On the other hand we have a younger couple from Chandigarh who seem like these blingy and loud Punjabis from a small town and yet seem equally charming. These two couples who could not be any different from each other are out for one common goal and their destiny is intertwined.

When it comes to comedies in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar often comes to mind seeing how many of those he has done in his career and his experience clearly shows in the film. Diljit Dosanjh is also no stranger to the genre seeing his Punjabi filmography. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles and let’s just say they both justified their characters really well even though Kareena did most of the heavy lifting.

Kareena Kapoor is extremely good in her role as Deepti Batra, a modern and successful woman who is desperate to have a child and has been getting a lot of pressure to have one from the society. Akshay Kumar is pretty decent in his role but Kareena simply overpowers him with her genuine performance. Akshay is at his funniest and charming self and it is good to see him taking a break from his usual patriotic roles. Diljit is a natural in his character and it shows in his effortless performance where he pulls of the character of a velvet track suit wearing Punjabi who is hilarious.  Meanwhile, Kiara Advani gives an honest and decent performance as well even though she did not have as much to do in the film as the others.

Overall, the casting of the lead roles was done really well in the film. The first half of the film is true to the genre and will give you a lot of moments of laughter and some cheery songs that fit the mood. It is in fact the second half where the film changes tone and becomes dragged at parts. It feels like the director was not confident that the film would work well as just a comedy and felt like he must add some melodrama to take it to the finish line. This is what the common belief in Bollywood has always been that a film must make you laugh and cry. This is still a good watch and Dharma productions has finally taken a risk that definitely paid off.
