Frozen is not just another animated film by Disney as it was nothing less than a worldwide phenomenon. The film became much bigger than a children’s movie and was loved and appreciated by people of all ages and critics alike. The Oscars also showed immense love at the movie and the world hummed the tune of ‘let it go’ for years. It has been many years since the first Frozen film hit the big screens and totally took the world by storm and 2019 has finally given us the sequel to the iconic Disney animated film and beloved musical.
Frozen 2 has all the good elements of the first film and will leave you with a sense of contentment that we all wish for from a sequel. Anna and Elsa are the two most loved Disney princesses and they are back with a bang with more adventures in the kingdom of Arendelle. The two sisters must face new challenges and emerge stronger because after all true love is their biggest strength. Elsa is stronger than ever and is in search for her true identity whereas Anna has her big sister’s back at all times.
This charming musical sequel again elevates sisterhood, empowerment, love, and acceptance while introducing catchy new songs that are sure to please young Elsa and Anna fans. The fame of ‘let it go’ raised the bar for the music in the sequel and it does not disappoint. There are some memorable numbers in this one as well and we are still humming ‘into the unknown’. Some of the loved characters such as Olaf, Kristoff and Swen are back along with some brand new characters that are really fun to watch and make the plot more interesting.
What sets the film apart from its prequel is that the storyline in Frozen 2 is less straightforward than in the original. It takes you on an epic journey and leaves you wanting more. The plot is full of twists and turns and is more of an epic story than a normal Disney musical. The visuals of the film are simply spectacular and the animators have definitely outdone the first one with their work in this sequel. There are some scenes where the scenery looks so real that you will forget you are watching an animated film for a moment. The only thing which makes the movie a bit less accessible to a certain audience is that it is too ambitious and therefore tries too hard to set a darker and more mature setup. There are multiple character arcs, and the youngest viewers might get a bit confused and lost as the ideal audience for the film would be for the age bracket of 10 and above unlike the first one that could be enjoyed by toddlers as well.
Overall it is a great sequel to an even greater original movie and is an absolute must watch for the fans of Disney and musicals as well.
