Probably the most promising film of 2019 that gave us a legendary performance by Joaquin Phoenix was Joker. Joker has bagged 11 nominations at the Oscars this year including Best Picture and Best Actor for Phoenix and has broken all records in this aspect. Therefore, it is a must watch and also one of the strongest contenders of this award season.
The Irishman
Another film with a legendary cast this year with Martin Scorsese at the helm is the Irishman. The film stars the acting giants Robert De Niro and Al Pacino which is enough reason to watch the film to be honest. It also has Joe Pesci who has given an incredible performance and the film also has some great CGI. Overall this is one of the strongest films of 2019 and will definitely win some of the awards it has been nominated for.
Once upon a time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino had his dream cast for this one and has surely delivered one of his best works yet. Once upon a time in Hollywood is a movie that is one of its kind and the chemistry between Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt is off the charts in this. Margot Robbie is amazing as usual and the movie will make you respect these actors even more.
Little Women
The film is based on a classic novel of the same name written by Louisa May Alcott that has been adapted to screen before but this version directed by Greta Gerwig is simply unique on its own. The film has an incredible cast and has been nominated for 6 Oscars including Best picture. Little women may be an adaptation but it is a breath of fresh air and is definitely one of the frontrunners in this year’s race for the Oscars.
Parasite
Probably the biggest surprise and unexpected entry into the award season this year has been Parasite. The film has been nominated for the best international feature and best picture as well which shows how promising it is. It is extremely rare and difficult for a foreign film to be nominated for best picture which mostly only consists of Hollywood films. Parasite has shown how much potential international films have and how they mostly go unnoticed.
Marriage Story
Scarlett Johansson has been nominated twice this year for 2 different movies and one of them is Marriage Story with the talented Adam Driver as her partner. The film has been appreciated for the acting as well as writing and will touch a lot of chords for marriage couples as it is full of emotion. The film deals with heavy themes such as divorce and seperation and gives a beautiful meaning to the term marriage and its many struggles.
