The Emmy
awards are the biggest TV awards in Hollywood and every year there are numerous
shows and talent that are nominated for the acclaimed awards. It is a matter of
great pride for any artist to be nominated for the Emmys and this time India
has something special to root for as well. The beloved Bollywood film director
Anurag Kashyap recently posted that there are 3 Indian nominations for this
year’s Emmy awards and we cannot keep calm. Kashyap definitely has three big reasons
to be ecstatic right now as he is directly and indirectly connected to all
three nominated projects and artists.
The Netflix original show ‘Sacred games’ starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif
Ali Khan among other stars is nominated for the international Emmy for Best
Drama. The show is directed by none other than Anurag Kashyap along with
Vikramaditya Motvani. This show has received immense praises from critics and
audiences worldwide and has made a new space for Indian content on
International platforms. This nomination means a lot for the makers of the show
as well as the huge fan base it has in India and abroad.
The second nomination is for another Indian Netflix venture called ‘Lust
stories’ which is nominated for Best TV movie/miniseries. The movie is a
collaborative venture by four Indian directors that are Anurag Kashyap, Zoya
Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar. The movie is split into four parts
and shows 4 different tales of love and lust directed by the 4 directors of the
movie.
The third nomination is for the very talented actress Radhika Apte who has been
working in many Netflix projects in the past few years and has finally bagged a
nomination for her work in the movie ‘Lust stories’. Apte is nominated for the
award of Best actress for her role in the film where she plays a college
professor who lusts after one of her students. Apte’s performance in the film
is really good and we hope she actually wins the award for it.
Kashyap posted about the news on his social media this morning and since then a lot of support and wishes have been pouring from Bollywood celebrities. Karan Johar who directed one fourth of the nominated movie ‘Lust stories’ has posted about the achievement on Twitter and has expressed his pride and excitement. The director also thanked the other three directors of the movie and added ‘our quarter rocks’.
These Emmy nominations are extremely important for the indian entertainment industry as it proves that Indian content can be appreciated universally and there is a space for it on the International market as well. It is also a matter of pride for the Indian audience and viewers and shows that there is an audience for Indian talent in the West as well. Here’s hoping that we actually win some of these awards and that Indian film makers and artists keep on creating fine content that is universal and can get be appreciated on international as well as national platforms.
